COUGARS IN SOUTH CAROLINA?
This is a forum for an enduring Lowcountry mystery: whether cougars are still slinking through the area's swamps and forests.
I thought I saw a big black cougar cross the raod on 402 when leaving Bommeau Ferry. But when I said someting to a forrester fella later, he said it could of been a black bear so i really cant say for sure. But it was large and black and wasnt no deer or dog!
But my husband swear by his story... when he was younger hunting with his Dad and brothers in a Westvco club near Wasamasaw. They seen a big black panther cross the road and sped up to get a better look and her cubs darted out in front and they stopped the truck and jumped out and one lttle one was running down the ditch and they tried catching it. They could hear the mother in the woods making a fuss and the other kits were with her. Well when they grabbed the kit in the ditch it ate thier butts up! scratching and clawing...so they turned it loose and that was it. That was in the 80's some time.
